The Liebermans exemplify humility and empathy as described by Rabbi Jonathan Sacks as "...living by the light of that-which-is-greater-than-me." Lauren and David are baalei tzedakah and chesed, always contributing selflessly, generously, and quietly to Riverdale families, SAR, and the greater Jewish community. Together, they serve on SAR's Executive Committee and David, co-founder and COO of Global Trading Systems (GTS), is a dedicated member of SAR's Board of Trustees.
Lauren is a regular presence in the Academy as a parent and volunteer. Since 2014, she has co-chaired both SAR's Caring Community Initiative and Chesed Committees, which support SAR families in need through life-cycle events and crisis situations. Additionally, an education specialist with an MA in Cognitive Studies in Education from Teachers College, Lauren periodically assists with reading groups and Judaic studies, and has taught in the inclusion program. Lauren has also taught a sign language Enrichment Cluster, and outside of school, leads book clubs in classical and contemporary literature.
Lauren embodies the school's commitment to compassion and community. As a Community Chesed Coordinator, Lauren facilitates volunteer opportunities for youth and families at the Hebrew Home, the Atria of Riverdale, and the Bronx Jewish Community Council. Lauren is also a Trustee of The Riverdale Minyan and a Co-Chair of TRM’s Chesed and Welcoming Committees.
Lauren and David's character, coupled with their commitment to Jewish values, is an inspiration to many, especially their children Sadie (Gr. 8), Kayla (Gr. 6), and Yakir (Gr. 4). As Riverdale residents, the Liebermans are deeply involved with communal causes that provide assistance and advocacy to families in need. They are proud to support SAR and the vital role it serves as a model of Jewish educational excellence and chesed, both within Riverdale and the wider Jewish community.
